“Passionate, authentic and bold, the conductor reveals the richness and emotion of timeless works, bringing them to life with vibrancy and brilliance.” Tomás Basavilbaso
Biography
A young conductor passionate about new forms of musical expression, Elena Lorda divides her time between conducting, piano and teaching. Having completed her studies at the Royal Conservatory of Mons, Belgium, where she remained in constant dialogue with the Romantic and Classical repertoire, she is now pursuing a new Master’s degree in Orchestral Conducting for Contemporary Music at the Hochschule in Cologne, Germany. The orchestra is her home and the path she has chosen to follow. Yet it is through the piano that the Spanish musician began her training, before moving to Belgium to continue her studies with Hans Ryckelynck.
From the very beginning of her conducting career, she realized that she would never be able to stop. Driven by this passion, she has taken part in masterclasses with the Royal Chamber Orchestra of Wallonia, the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra of Liège, as well as with the French conductor Franck Villard. A student of Nicolas Krüger, Elena Lorda has also founded several ensembles, including “L’Orchestre des étudiants,” bringing together amateur and professional musicians, with whom she organized more than ten concerts over nine months. She has also taken part in festivals such as the Classissimo Festival, the Poulenc&Friends Festival and the Festival des Solistes. The pianist is also interested in composition, musical research and the exploration of new sounds. This interest led her to the final of the OpusOne Academy composition competition and has enabled her to bring new music written by her colleagues to life through her ensembles. Whether as a composer, pianist or conductor, her inspiration always remains the same: to create genuine connections between musicians and audiences, and to seek in each work what deeply connects us to our humanity.
